Who We Serve

More than a decade after gaining independence, South Sudan continues to face conflict, economic challenges, and climate-driven crises. Today, countless lives have been lost, over 4.5 million people remain displaced within and in neighboring countries, and much of the population still lack access to education, healthcare, and sustainable livelihoods.
Friends in Solidarity, in partnership with Solidarity with South Sudan, serves some of the most vulnerable populations impacted by war and conflict. This effort reaches displaced individuals and communities, rural villages, and urban areas, providing essential training and resources in education, healthcare, pastoral leadership, and sustainable agriculture. We walk with the people of South Sudan in building a future rooted in dignity and hope.
How We Help
FiS focuses its efforts where the need is greatest—supporting those affected by conflict, standing in solidarity with local leaders, and strengthening essential services that help communities thrive. Through our partnerships, we bring relief to areas where life-saving resources and interventions are often scarce, but are most needed. This includes:
- Faith Communities and Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps – Providing pastoral care and spiritual guidance for different dioceses and those forced to flee their homes.
- Riimenze and environs – Providing support through our Sustainable Agricultural Project (SAP-R) to ensure that farmers have the skills and resources necessary to combat food insecurity and mothers can improve the nutritional outcomes of their families.
- Health facilities in Wau and beyond – Training nurses and midwives through the Catholic Healthcare Training Institute (CHTI) who deliver lifesaving care in hospitals, clinics, and health facilities across the country and in the Nuba mountains.
- Schools across the country – Graduating teachers through the Solidarity Teacher Training College (STTC) to provide and safeguard quality education for future generations.
The needs are great, but so is the impact of our projects. Every dollar raised in the U.S. goes directly to supporting these initiatives, empowering the people of South Sudan and the Nuba mountains to build a future of stability, dignity, and self-reliance.

Skilled nurses and midwives are essential to healthier communities. CHTI has trained 447 healthcare professionals who support an estimated one million patient visits each year.
Partner Spotlight
Friends in Solidarity (FiS) is the U.S.-based partner of Solidarity with South Sudan (SwSS), supporting its mission to provide education, healthcare, pastoral formation, and agricultural training across the country. SwSS unites priests, brothers, sisters, and lay professionals to equip teachers, nurses, midwives, and faith leaders, ensuring even remote communities have access to vital services.
Through a capacity-building model, SwSS empowers South Sudanese citizens with the skills to rebuild their nation. FiS strengthens these efforts by raising awareness and securing resources to sustain this work.
